Why do we need this?

So the more I learn about Photoshop CS4, (and helping edit a book on it, you learn a LOT), I start wondering something. What's the fucking point of all the image adjustment bullshit on a DSLR, or even a P&S?

Seriously...if you're using one, you have a computer or access to one. You have the ability to view and adjust your photos on a big screen, that's bright and easy to view, probably not washed out by the sun. You have actual input devices that don't suck donkey cock.

Yet people are absolutely convinced that you need all that shit on the camera. So you can do image adjustments on a screen smaller, and usually shittier than an iPod Touch/iPhone. It reminds me of all the objections raised to the iPod. "Oh, it's too simple. You NEED equalizers, and all the rest on the device."

Looking at the sales history of the iPod, no, in fact you really don't. So why are we so convinced that you need it on the camera? If I need it on the camera, why the fuck do I pay for the various versions of Photoshop, iPhoto, et al? I have all that on the camera. Other than organization, if I don't need anything more than some basic adjustments, and the camera does it, why do I need software to do it?

Oh wait, because camera UIs suck balls, and the screens blow and THAT'S WHAT THE COMPUTER YOU DUMP THE FUCKING PHOTO INTO IS FOR.

Christ, what's next, "Photoshop, Nikon Edition?" It's all that's missing. Maybe a wee Cintiq for the LCD display. With a solid state RAID array, GigE, and 802.11n on the camera too.

I mean, if you're going to shove all that shit in, don't be a pussy about it, shove ALLLLL that shit in.
