But...But...that's what he DOES

So a guy I respect, Matt Johnston, is peeved at Scoble for shitting on 70 startups solely because he doesn't like their web sites. No, really:

UPDATE: I just visited every one of these companies. Boy do they almost all suck (at least their Web sites and if their sites suck, I can’t believe their products are going to do much better).
Rich is, unsurprisingly, pissed:
Who the hell are you, Robert? You’re not an investor, you’ve no idea what it takes to make a successful startup company. You’re not running one, there’s not much sign of you ever having run one from your Wikipedia entry. You studied part of your Journalism degree - did you miss the ‘ideal’ that you’re meant to espouse
Hell, even Pat Phelan agrees with him and has a good point about why what Scoble said is particularly insulting, (and folks, Pat and I do NOT get along):
It isn’t about winning or loosing or which conference they made it to, its about them and their product, wives and loved ones have been left behind, Kids haven’t seen Dad’s for months, credit cards are massively overdrawn and careers are being risked.
Robert this is insulting, its insulting to them, its insulting to me as an entrepreneur, I always had you down as the guy in our corner, helping the start-ups, giving us a little bit of that Scoble shine.
You lost that for me tonight buddy.
Guys, guys, guys: that's what Le Scoble does. There's a reason they're called "New Media Douchebags" and there's a reason why the last word is DOUCHEBAG. Out of all of them, Winer may be the only person to create anything other than a fucking web site and maybe a conference (and god knows he'll tell you about it ad nauseum. Like Stallman with better hygiene and work habits he is). What has Scoble ever done in his career that wasn't vampiring off of someone's work?

Other than being a shitty sysadmin and a camera salesman? Nothing

He can't even write half-assed tech articles that contribute to the great Google database. He has never come close to creating anything, and his entire rep is based on LOOK AT ME. That's right. A career that parallels a four year old's need for attention. What's the best way to piss him off? Not give him a rimjob if he's upset with your company or product. Fucking princess two-stepping his way through life.

I get why you're pissed too. It's not like Scoble could be arsed to find out fuck-all about those companies. No, he didn't like their web sites, so the company must suck. Please. But that's what a New Media Douchebag does. You don't do what they want, how they want it? You suck.

Both of y'all have actually DONE stuff, far more than Scoble ever will. Probably more than me, I'm lazy. So have every single one of those 70 startups and the people who are killing themselves to make it work. But unfortunately, the web and the New Media circle jerk have decided to give Scoble some actual pull in the world. So you get shit like this. There's an easy answer: Stop giving a fuck what he says. He's not representative of anyone but NMDs, and if NMDs hate you, you're probably on the right track.

But don't expect more from NMDs or their high priests. You'll be disappointed.

You made a great point. Intelligence on the intertubes is scarce enough as it is, I'm not going to let past arguments prevent me from pointing it out :-)

I went to Scoble's website. I think it kinda sucks. Maybe this is why his posts and opinions suck.

He's a publicist/cheerleader with delusions of analytical wisdom.
