- Watching the video for "Sister Havana" by Urge Overkill for the first time in probably over a decade. Still love the slinky guitar, and the shots of Miami Beach/Coral Gables are fantastic. Great tune, and anyone who thinks UO began and ended with "Girl you'll be a woman soon" should take a listen.
- Also bought "If I Never See Your Face Again" by Rihanna with Maroon 5. First, every time I hear Maroon 5, I like them a little more. Great, smart pop, fantastic hooks, eminently danceable, and such a voice. The same for Rihanna, as long as she stays away from drek like "I know I'm a dirty slut fucking everyone behind your back, and it's really killing me that I'm hurting you, but I still can't KEEP MY FUCKING LEGS FROM SPREADING FOR THE WHOLE FUCKING CITY", or whatever it was called. That shit may sell records, but oy does it suck balls, and her voice is too strong for that kind of wussy crap. The combination of her and Maroon 5 really works well here. Should be played loud. Very Loud.
- Since we're talking Rihanna, "Shut Up and Drive" doesn't suck either.

You are dead on about "Sister Havana". The opening guitar riff is so monumental, it has been my official arrival song for the last decade when rolling into Vegas. And the track just builds from there. Slip in the CD, crank the volume full clockwise, and commence rocking out. I can't think of many other songs that get the ol' adrenalin pumping (a requirement for weekends full of debauchery that only that town can deliver). Important rule: do not start the track until you pass the exit for McCarran, so it lasts long enough to actually reach the Strip. Bonus points if your windows or convertible top are down. The rest of the CD lasts long enough for all but the worst Strip crawl to the northernmost casinos. Thanks for joggin' the memory.
Oh, nice blog BTW - I just started reading a couple of weeks ago.
