Mike Silverman that is, who, along with his partner Dave, are going to get legally married on June 17th in Cali. While I've never met Dave, (at least I'm not sure I have), I've known Mike for a while now, via his work on Timbuktu, and that odd "Macworld/WWDC friendship" I've started with so many others.
But, knowing Mike, I'm positive Dave's a great guy, and I'm thrilled for them both. As Mike said in his post:
Marriage is the end goal. More specifically, it is the the legal license. You see, Dave and I already have been married for over nine years. Our ceremony, back in 1999, was our wedding, in front of family, friends, and God. What we were going to do in California is getting the legal license to match the reality of our lives. It is an important step; we are citizens of America, after all, and government recognition of our union is important for all kinds of reasons most people never think about.I completely agree, and I hope that one day, both they, Melissa and I, and other couples will be trying to explain to our children and grandchildren just how we managed to survive as a country, in spite of being so fucking stupid.
No, I don't think Mike and Dave's wedding will "threaten" mine, don't be stupid.

Florida is going the opposite direction. We have a marriage 'protection' amendment on the ballot in November, which is expected to pass by a large margin.
People still seem to think Florida is a swing state, but it isn't. A few counties in South Florida are moderately liberal thanks to all of the northerners who moved here, but the rest of Florida is 100% deep south redneck mouth breathers.

And yet it took gross election fraud to hand the 2000 election to Dubya (the governor's brother, no less!) Shows you by what a narrow margin we entered this nightmare!

Thanks, John! Looking forward to seeing you at WWDC.
Mike Cohen, unfortunately, California has one of those obnoxious ballot initiatives also this fall, which if it passes, will end there as fast as it started. Both of these things need to be defeated. I've never understood why it is seen as OK in so many states for the majority to vote on the fundamental rights of a minority!

It ain't just the rednecks who get squicked out by The Ghey; there's a lot of reasonably well-meaning older folks who can't get past their upbringing. As time goes on and more of that generation shuffleboards off this mortal coil, progress will come. (It'll even come here to Texas eventually, though I may not live to see it.)

But this upsets the natural order of things! I mean, without a woman in on the arrangement, who will fleece whom in the divorce? ;)

Well Chuck, obviously if there is a divorce (something I have heard from several friends is much less common in same sex marriages) the catcher in male relations or the submissive partner in female relations will fleece the other one (pitcher/dom). The natural order is still maintained and everyone can go on with their lives, but like I said, from what I've heard it's unlikely to even think that this will come up. I think Mike and Dave will live out a long and happy relationship together.
I do also have to agree with John, and wonder how I'll explain to my children and grandchildren "how we ever survived being so stupid." I don't think Mike and Dave's wedding will threaten traditional marriages either in any way, shape, or for. Ever.
So congrats Mike and Dave, have a good life together, and enjoy your official wedding day to the fullest.
