There. I said it.

At what point will the rest of the internet wake up and call on Digg to shut down the comments? I think the entire concept is stupid, but I suppose people simply HAVE to be told how popular they are. But come on, the comments are lamer than even the worst example of Usenet. Just put a bullet into it and be done with it.

I couldn't agree with you more. Digg is a distraction and is censored.

It's a vanity sight for Kevin Rose. It does nothing more than draw attention away from the original blog sites. They blacklist sites and the postings are by some of most delusional cretins you'll ever find on the internet.

Digg? It sounds rather vulgar.

A Billion dollars for the gifted team or person who implements the Personalized Assclown Filter®. This system, much like a personalized spam filter, preemptively scans requested internet content for high degrees of Assclownery and hides (portions of) the content before it is shown to user.

The user can furthermore mark posts, comments and just about everything as being buffoonish to make the system learn of the user's personal Assclown Resistance Ratio™.

Of course, the system has a sophisticated AI built-in and if it detects the user is an assclown himself, it will generate a Personal Alternet. Now when the user tries to add content in the form of comments, blogs, wiki edits, etc. it will create a local copy of the page reflecting the Assclown User's changes, protecting the internet from his content while keeping him happy, safe in the assurance that his opinions are widely read and despised. Advanced versions could even generate rebuttals of his edits in the form of comments signed by popular industry pundits. The Assclown will never know.
