I wonder...

In this month's episode of "I wonder..."

I wonder if Scoble's going to point out on his blog that his "O NOES, APPLE IS SUING TEH BLOGGERS FOR TEH PODCASTS" screed, which was based on his blind assumption of "If it's in the "Blogosphere", it must be so" with regard to Apple "sending lawyers out after people using the word 'podcast'" was actually incorrect. I wonder if he'll realize that once again, had he actually tried to get the facts, he would have found out that no, that's not why Apple sent out the C&D letter, but rather over Podcast Ready attempting to trademark "mypodder" along with "Podcast Ready", and that "mypodder" is software that lets you organize and manage podcasts and then download them to a device, including...iPods.

Now, let's see, software that talks to iPods called "mypodder".

Hmm...it's not so ridiculous when you look at it with, you know, the actual facts.

However, no one should hold their breath about Robert issuing a clarification. He tends to do such things reluctantly, and only after a severe beating. I find I no longer care enough to beat him that hard and long, and shall content myself with the role of The Ancient Booer. It's more fun, and really, when you're talking about Scoble, equally effective in the long run. That is to say, not at all.

Robert's done this kind of thing before, multiple times. In one case, he led the way in hanging a (then) fellow Microsoft employee out to dry, because he felt being first was better than being correct. He then apologized about a week later, said that was a wrong attitude, that he wouldn't do it again, then blithely proceeded to keep doing it.

Robert, a tip: When you apologize, but never change your behavior, at best, it looks as though you're unconsciously insincere, (i.e. you're lying, but you don't know you're lying, and you really believe what you're saying), at worst, it makes you look like you're just lying your ass off, (i.e. gambling on the complete lack of short or long term memory in the "blogosphere", which is not exactly a risky proposition), every time you apologize.

Either way, it makes your trustability live below the basement. Anyone care to start the deadpool on how long before he does it to someone at his new company? (and no, Maryam is not eligible as a target. I like her, she's a nice lady.)
