« Apple Remote Desktop 3 released | Main | Yes, Macworld Still Matters »
Go read John Gruber's article on this.
Gruber and Roysna being in total agreement is eyebrow - raising. When I'M in total agreement with Roysna, that's "total eclipse caused by Jupiter" - level rarity. But in this case, i think all three of us are right.
Repairing permissions is a maintenance action. It is not the new version of "Rebuild your Desktop" nor "Zap Your PRAM". It can ONLY fix problems related to permissions. Period. If you don't know what the problem is, don't use the spaghetti-test method to fix it. Find someone smarter than you on such things and let THEM troubleshoot.
Again for those less sensible:
"Expalliarmus" is a magic spell. It is also fiction.
Repair Permissions is not a magic spell, nor is it fiction. There is a relationship there. Think about it.

Warning for Notes users: The commenting system uses HTML.I know this will be scary for some of you, especially Notes fans. However, open standards, rah-rah.
If you want to use less-than or greater-than signs, or other similar characters that HTML reserves,
you'll simply have to learn to do it the HTML way. Luckily, HTML is kind of popular, no matter what
your re-educators have told you, and you can easily find help on the intertubes.
