That's not everything, but a bit of a snapshot, and kind of neat to see what was happening almost 40 years ago.
Not 40, but almost. Two years for 40. That's important. 38, NOT 39, or 40.
50 is RIGHT out.

Today is also my brother's 38th birthday. Looking at the prices of things the year you were born can always make you feel old, but he got a far worse shock. Last week, a letter from some generic insurance company arrived that began "With your upcoming 65th birthday, we would like to offer..." Take comfort if those haven't started arriving for you yet, and Happy Birthday.

heh...common mistake.
The Merrimack was the ship's name as a Union vessel. The Confederacy captured it, and rechristened it as the C.S.S. Virginia. It was later burned and scuttled.
Parts were recovered, but it was a navigation nusiance, so the major part of the hull was destroyed during dredging.

I actually did remember your birthday... just not on the correct date. I remembered it last week. These are the problems with refusing to cooperate with time...
You cannot possibly be 38, because that would make me... Oh, never mind. I'm expecting one of those AARP things any day.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
From your Ma, her strange Hubby, and the Biscuit.

Happy birthday, you are olllllld ;p If you're almost 40, that means I'm almost 30, and I am not sure I can accept that. So let's agree to start going in reverse with each year. Next year we'll be 27 and 37, respectively. In ten years I'll be 18 again, and you'll be 28. At that point, I will start going forward again until 20 years from now when I once again reach 28, and then reverse again. You can choose to reverse all the way back to 18 or just go to 28, depending on what works for you. The only problem is, if you keep wanting to date women half your age, you'll have to go younger, and then you'll start getting into issues of legality and morality. Maybe stick with women who are at least 21 or 22 so you don't get charged with intoxicating a minor. I know it will be rough, but stand strong :p
Anyway, happy birthday, my fine friend.
Love,
Rachel (who is about to go lie out by the pool in beautiful sunny Arizona, where it will be in the 80's today, so come visit her soon. And who also has BROWN hair. Not Red, BROWN, I SAY!)
